Focus Week Workshop Instructor – International Legal Assistance

About the role

The Faculty of Law at McGill University seeks an experienced legal professional to lead a Focus Week workshop on International Legal and Justice Assistance. The instructor will guide students through the design and delivery of real‑world assistance initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate an intensive four‑day workshop (Mon‑Thu, 10:05‑12:55) in Chancellor Day Hall.
• Lead students in conducting needs assessments and developing workplans for international assistance projects.
• Teach the use of project‑management tools, including results‑based management and risk analysis.
• Coordinate with partner ministries, manage stakeholder relationships, and navigate diplomatic and institutional constraints.
• Introduce perspectives from law and development, international relations, and human rights.
• Critically examine the assumptions, foreign‑policy links, and transferability of Canadian legal approaches.

Required profile

• At minimum, a first degree in law.
• Several years of significant professional practice in the relevant area.
• Experience teaching undergraduate law students in a bilingual setting.
• Eligibility for allocation under article 15.03.03 of the MCLIU collective agreement.
