Financial Analyst – Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Program

About the role

The Financial Analyst provides financial analysis and management for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Program at UBC. Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Financial Support, the role supports budgeting, forecasting, and compliance with GAAP and tax regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop quarterly, semi‑annual and annual budgets and financial forecasts to guide leadership decisions and prepare annual interest income reports.
• Create and maintain a 10‑year rolling financial budget, perform variance analysis, and recommend investment strategies for idle cash.
• Analyze actual, budgeted and forecasted data, producing variance reports that meet Foundation transparency requirements and GAAP standards.
• Reconcile and approve awards and stipends, resolve disbursement issues, and ensure completeness and correctness of student financial assistance.
• Prepare adjusting and year‑end journal entries, conduct spot audits, and design internal controls and budgetary systems.
• Perform trend, vertical and horizontal analyses, offering expense projections to the Program Director.
• Advise Enrolment Services Advisors and other stakeholders on complex budgeting, accounting, award eligibility, and policy compliance.
• Design and deliver training workshops for staff and advising teams on financial procedures, policies and systems.
