Drop-in Engagement Worker

About the role

The Drop‑in Engagement Worker joins a collaborative team at The Stop Community Food Centre, creating a safe and welcoming environment where community members can enjoy meals, access services, and participate in programs. This part‑time, one‑year contract position involves active presence on the floor, supporting both the operational flow and the wellbeing of visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and welcoming drop‑in space.
• Apply food‑handling, sanitation, and health‑safety standards as required by Toronto Public Health.
• Assist with conflict prevention, resolution, and crisis intervention when needed.
• Support cooking and preparation of breakfast meals.
• Coordinate activities with the Drop‑in Support Worker and guide volunteers and relief staff.
• Maintain daily program logs, collect statistical data, and ensure accurate record‑keeping.
• Provide referrals to community resources and support participants in accessing additional services.
• Participate in team meetings, agency‑wide events, and ongoing training.

• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Required skills

• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation guidelines.
• Basic cooking or food‑preparation experience.
• Ability to manage conflict and provide crisis support.
