Director of Finance – High Growth VC-Backed Startup

About the role

We are seeking a Director of Finance to own the accounting and financial reporting function of a fast‑growing, VC‑backed startup. The role is based in Toronto and requires hands‑on leadership of all finance activities, from month‑end close to treasury management. You will build a robust financial infrastructure that can scale with the company’s rapid expansion.

Key responsibilities

• Own month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end close processes and prepare IFRS financial statements.
• Lead external audit from start to finish and set accounting policies.
• Strengthen and scale financial processes, ensuring data integrity and efficient reporting.
• Oversee treasury, cash management, working capital and corporate tax filings (including SR&ED).
• Provide board‑ready financial reporting and partner cross‑functionally to enforce financial discipline.

Required profile

• CPA designation with 8–12 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Prior controller‑level ownership in a VC‑backed startup, including full IFRS statement responsibility.
• Manager‑level audit experience, preferably Big 4.
• Proven ability to build and scale accounting operations during rapid growth.
