Director, Accounting & Consolidation

About the role

EQ Bank is looking for a Director, Accounting & Consolidation to join its Accounting and Finance Department in Toronto. The role manages core financial control functions, including technical accounting, accounting policy, consolidation, month-end and quarter-end close, and financial statement preparation. It calls for strong people leadership, sound judgment and excellent communication and organizational skills to lead a team of accounting professionals and partner across the bank.

Key responsibilities

• Provide accounting advisory and guidance to business units, including new product and service launches, and prepare technical accounting memos and position papers
• Lead the month-end and quarter-end close and group consolidation, coordinating across subsidiaries such as Concentra Bank and Bennington Financial Services
• Own the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, including external financial statements and disclosures
• Partner with the Middle Office on derivatives and hedge accounting, including hedge designation, documentation and strategies to minimize fair value mismatches
• Lead finance projects such as portfolio purchase and sale transactions and intercompany agreements
• Manage a team of accounting professionals through guidance, coaching and business context
• Manage the external auditor relationship, including the annual audit, quarterly reviews, PBC requests and prospectus-related filings

Required profile

• Recognized CPA accounting designation
• 7-10 years of progressively responsible accounting and financial reporting experience, including consolidation and close, preferably in financial services
• Proven success as an accounting or finance leader in a director or similar role
• Strong organizational skills to set priorities, schedules and timelines
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to explain complex accounting matters to senior stakeholders

Required skills

• Strong technical accounting knowledge of IFRS and ability to draft clear accounting memos
• Derivatives and hedge accounting, including documentation and effectiveness assessment
• Advanced Excel and experience with ERP and/or consolidation and reporting tools
