Manager, Strategic Finance & Corporate Development

About the role

EQ Bank is hiring a Manager, Strategic Finance & Corporate Development for its Enterprise Strategy & Growth team in Toronto. The role sits within corporate development, strategic investments, partnerships and enterprise initiatives, reporting to the Director, Corporate Development & Investments. It suits someone who enjoys solving complex business problems through rigorous financial analysis and wants to move beyond traditional finance into strategy, investments and growth.

Key responsibilities

• Financial modelling and analytics (45%): build, maintain and own financial models for strategic initiatives, acquisitions, partnerships, investments and new products; develop business cases and scenario analyses; run sensitivity analysis; analyze business performance and customer economics; support executive and Board-level decisions; build analytical tools and templates; perform ad hoc analysis for the CEO, CFO and Executive Leadership Team.
• Investments, M&A and capital allocation (30%): support identification and evaluation of M&A, partnerships and strategic investments; assist in financial diligence, valuation and transaction modelling; prepare valuations using DCF, comparable companies and precedent transactions; monitor the strategic investments portfolio; analyze capital allocation options; prepare materials for investment, transaction and governance discussions.
• Strategy and growth support (15%): support enterprise strategy and growth initiatives with financial analysis and market assessments; contribute to strategic planning and performance insights; evaluate growth opportunities and competitive positioning; present findings to leadership.
• Research and market intelligence (10%): research banking, fintech, competitive and market trends; gather and synthesize information; track industry developments; support fact bases for strategic reviews and executive presentations.

Required profile

• 3-5 years of experience in investment banking, corporate finance, transaction advisory, valuation, corporate development, private equity, consulting, strategic finance or a related analytical field.
• Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business or a related discipline.
• Ability to independently execute complex analytical work and to structure analysis around complex questions.
• Preferred: progress toward the CFA, experience in financial services, banking, fintech or investment environments, and exposure to M&A, investments, strategic planning or capital allocation.

Required skills

• Advanced financial modelling and analytical capabilities.
• Strong understanding of financial statements, valuation methodologies and business case development.
• Advanced Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience with platforms such as Capital IQ, FactSet, PitchBook or Bloomberg is an asset.
