Senior Manager, Governance and Control

About the role

EQ Bank is looking for a Senior Manager, Governance and Control to lead governance, control and operational risk management activities for its Personal Banking business. The role covers the design, implementation, execution and reporting of 1st line testing and risk management programs, supporting both day-to-day priorities and strategic initiatives through collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and update an inventory of key and non-key controls in line with OSFI Guideline E-13
• Design, implement and run 1st line testing of key controls, analyse results and recommend remediation
• Review and streamline processes and controls, and coach staff on improving them while keeping agility
• Maintain a central inventory of controls, procedures, policies, testing evidence and action items in SharePoint
• Act as subject matter expert on issues management in the Bank's RCM tool (Resolver) and track issue remediation
• Stay current on regulatory developments and emerging risks in personal banking
• Draft policies and procedures on issues management and control testing, and train 1st line staff
• Report to senior leaders on testing outcomes, control effectiveness, regulatory themes and risk trends, and support Board-level reporting

Required profile

• Post-secondary education in a related field such as risk policy, risk management, business, law or finance
• At least 5 years of progressive risk management, audit or 1st line risk management experience (OSFI 1B LOD), preferably in the financial industry
• Previous experience in compliance testing or audit
• Knowledge of the financial services sector, risk management, compliance and regulatory issues, and of legislation such as the Bank Act, Proceeds of Crime, Privacy and consumer protection laws

Required skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication and strong judgment
• Ability to work independently under pressure and to build relationships internally and externally
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
