About the role
The Crisis Trainer & Responder supports CMHA‑Edmonton’s Crisis Services Programme by training, supervising and responding to volunteers and staff on the Distress Line and 988 partnership. This temporary part‑time role combines instructional duties with direct crisis interaction to ensure high‑quality emotional support for callers.
Key responsibilities
- Facilitate or co‑facilitate Distress Line volunteer training sessions.
- Supervise monitor shifts, provide performance feedback, and recommend volunteers for permanent roles.
- Deliver emotional and practical support to volunteers and staff handling crisis interactions.
- Review and suggest improvements to training content and procedures.
- Respond to voice and text interactions for the 988 partnership, offering active listening and emotional support.
- Document interaction details accurately and conduct follow‑up outreach for clients at risk.
- Liaise with emergency services for active rescues and mandatory reporting when required.
Required profile
- Experience in mental health crisis intervention or related volunteer work.
- Background in training, supervising, or coaching volunteers or staff.
- Strong ability to provide emotional support and practical guidance during high‑stress situations.
- Excellent documentation skills and attention to detail.
- Capacity to coordinate with emergency services and follow mandatory reporting protocols.
