Cook – First Shift

About the role

The First Shift Cook works in a busy hotel kitchen, preparing both hot and cold menu items to the highest quality standards. This full‑time position supports the culinary team by ensuring timely service, accurate portioning, and consistent presentation.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare special meals, substitute items and cold foods according to recipes and presentation standards.
• Regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills and roasters; monitor food quality and quantity.
• Thaw frozen items, maintain food logs and ensure proper portioning, arrangement and garnish.
• Communicate assistance needs during peak periods and inform the Chef of excess inventory for daily specials.
• Notify service staff of menu specials and out‑of‑stock items.
• Follow all safety, sanitation and company policies; report maintenance issues, accidents or unsafe conditions.
• Assist management with hiring, training, scheduling and employee coaching as needed.
• Perform physical duties such as standing for long periods, lifting up to 25 lb, bending, twisting and reaching overhead.

Required profile

• Technical, trade or vocational school degree in culinary arts or related field.
• Minimum three years of relevant kitchen experience.
• Ability to work flexible shifts in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong communication skills and professional appearance.
• No supervisory experience required.
