Controller – Finance & Accounting

About the role

The Controller will join a fast‑growing staffing company in North York, working primarily on‑site four days a week. This role oversees all core finance and back‑office functions, ensuring accurate cash management, payroll, billing and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Review cash position, support urgent disbursements and payment decisions.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable, following up on outstanding items.
• Respond to finance‑related queries from management, internal teams, vendors and clients.
• Manage timesheet submissions, billing processes and weekly EFT/wire payments.
• Process semi‑monthly payroll for both entities, handling new hires, terminations, vacation updates and bonuses.
• Lead month‑end close, reconcile accounts and prepare monthly financial reporting packages.
• Update financial forecasts, identify risks or variances, and present results to management.
• Monitor key performance indicators for contractors and placements, calculate commissions and prepare executive summaries for leadership and the board.
• Handle monthly and annual government filings, quarterly bank compliance reporting and support external audit activities.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on finance and accounting experience, including month‑end close, reconciliations, payroll and reporting.
• Ability to work in a small team, take ownership of day‑to‑day finance operations and provide stability during transitions.
• Experience in a staffing or similar service‑based environment is preferred.
• Comfortable stepping into an existing environment quickly.

Required skills

• NetSuite (experience is an asset).
