Senior Accountant

About the role

This is a hands‑on Senior Accountant position supporting a mission‑driven, not‑for‑profit organization in Toronto. You will work closely with program leaders and the finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting and stewardship of diverse funding streams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end and year‑end close activities, delivering timely financial statements.
• Prepare and review general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and balance‑sheet accounts.
• Analyze variances between budget, forecast, and actuals and present clear insights to leadership.
• Support reporting for multiple programs, grants, and restricted funding streams.
• Investigate discrepancies, apply appropriate accounting standards, and communicate solutions to non‑finance stakeholders.
• Mentor junior accountants, providing guidance and escalation support.
• Assist with audit readiness, internal controls, and external reporting requirements.

Required profile

• 2–3 years of progressive accounting experience in an operational role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Business Administration.
• Currently pursuing or near completion of a CPA designation.
• Experience with program funding, grants, or restricted funds is an asset.
