Addiction Counsellor – RAAM (Contract)

About the role

The Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) program is seeking a dedicated Addiction Counsellor to provide counselling, support, and education to individuals, families, and communities affected by substance use and gambling. This full‑time, 35‑hour per week contract role works across office and community settings in the District of Muskoka and Parry Sound.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver individual and group counselling, supportive counselling, and crisis intervention.
• Develop care plans, make referrals, and facilitate case management.
• Provide education, stigma‑reduction activities, and prevention initiatives.
• Collaborate with the RAAM clinic, family physicians, hospitals, and withdrawal‑management services.
• Engage in community‑based capacity building and consultation with key partners.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant human services or health science discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• At least one year of experience working with persons experiencing mental illness, developmental disability, or substance‑use issues.
• Experience in supportive counselling, case management, or crisis intervention is preferred.
• Strong empathy, emotional intelligence, and conflict‑resolution abilities.
• Indigenous cultural awareness is an asset.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a rural team.
• Valid Ontario G or G2 driver’s licence with reliable transportation.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows.
• Proficiency with Internet navigation.
• Experience using electronic medical record systems.
