Accountant – Retail Finance Specialist

About the role

We are a family‑owned retail organization seeking an experienced Accountant to manage daily financial operations and provide monthly performance insights. The role is essential for accurate processing of sales, inventory, payroll and banking transactions while supporting a collaborative team culture.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, prepare journal entries, depreciation and amortization schedules.
• Process invoices, manage vendor payments, handle accounts payable/receivable and resolve statement disputes.
• Assist with inventory cost tracking, regular audits and reconciliations.
• Perform daily bank deposits, cashier report reviews, bank and credit‑card reconciliations, and sales entries.
• Support bi‑weekly payroll preparation on the company payroll platform.
• Prepare and file monthly HST returns and other statutory filings (WSIB, EHT).
• Contribute to monthly financial reporting, variance analysis, trend identification and KPI tracking.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations and internal policies.
• Identify and implement process‑improvement opportunities.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics or a related field; professional designation is an asset.
• 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably overseeing finance functions in a small‑to‑medium retail business.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices and regulations.
• Excellent communication, active listening and relationship‑building skills.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
