Recovery Superintendent

About the role

The Recovery Superintendent is responsible for maintaining the efficient operation of the recovery process that supports kraftmill operations in Ontario. The role oversees the recovery boiler, evaporation and stripping systems, as well as tall oil and turpentine recovery, ensuring health, safety, efficiency and cost targets are achieved.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain efficient operation of the recovery boiler, evaporation, stripping, tall oil and turpentine recovery systems.
• Drive continuous improvement in health and safety, operational efficiency and cost performance.
• Make sound decisions and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Supervise and lead unionized employees, ensuring compliance with collective agreements.
• Plan, prioritize and delegate work to meet production schedules.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and safe operating practices.

Required profile

• Hold a 1st or 2nd Class Power Engineer certificate, or a chemical or mechanical engineering degree with high‑pressure boiler experience.
• Proven experience managing unionized staff.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to integrate employee feedback.
• Strong organizational abilities, including planning, prioritizing and delegating.
• Capability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Legal right to work in Canada.
