Human Resources Advisor – Enrollment Services

About the role

The Human Resources Advisor provides a full range of HR services to Enrollment Services within the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice‑President (Academic) at McGill University. Reporting to the Associate Director, Administration and Finance, the advisor acts as a trusted partner to managers and employees, supporting the unit’s mission and strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret and apply HR policies, collective agreements and employment legislation, ensuring consistent practices across the unit.
• Advise managers on employee and labour‑relations matters, including performance management, disciplinary actions, accommodations, investigations and grievance administration.
• Liaise with Labour Relations on collective‑agreement issues, disciplinary actions, grievances and arbitration.
• Partner with managers and HR colleagues on workforce planning, recruitment, job posting development, candidate assessment and hiring recommendations.
• Develop and implement initiatives that enhance employee engagement, retention, professional development, succession planning and organisational effectiveness.
• Identify learning and development needs and coordinate appropriate training opportunities.
• Conduct job assessments and audits, contributing to policy development and new HR initiatives aligned with strategic direction.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience providing HR advisory services in a complex organization.
• Strong knowledge of labour relations, collective agreements and employment legislation.
• Ability to interpret HR policies and guide managers on consistent application.
• Excellent collaboration skills with stakeholders across a university environment.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful workplace culture.
