Food Services Supervisor – Residence (Auxiliary)

About the role

The University of British Columbia is seeking a Food Services Supervisor to oversee the day‑to‑day operations of a residence dining unit. This position supports senior supervisors, ensures compliance with food safety standards, and contributes to a high‑quality dining experience for students and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise food service workers, ensuring adherence to UBC customer service, FoodSafe, and WorkSafe BC standards.
• Train staff and verify understanding of operational procedures.
• Assist with scheduling and recommend staffing options.
• Order daily food supplies and manage inventory.
• Monitor labour, food, waste, and overhead costs with the unit manager.
• Handle customer comments and complaints, and track satisfaction through surveys and feedback tools.
• Relieve staff as needed to maintain smooth operations.
• Ensure product quality meets departmental standards and take corrective actions when required.
• Conduct audits for food quality, safety, sanitation, and customer satisfaction.
• Perform administrative duties such as answering phones, record keeping, data entry, and timesheet submission.
• Oversee cash handling, sales reporting, banking, and ledger reconciliation.
• Recommend daily specials and menu changes aligned with UBC Food Services’ vision.

Required profile

• Experience supervising food service staff in a hospitality or dining environment.
• Knowledge of FoodSafe standards and WorkSafe BC guidelines.
• Strong organizational skills for scheduling, inventory, and cost monitoring.
• Ability to address customer feedback and maintain high service standards.
• Competence in basic administrative tasks, cash handling, and record keeping.
