About the role
The Human Resources Specialist joins UBC's centralized HR team supporting the Vice‑President Academic, Vice‑President Research & Innovation and Governance portfolios. Working closely with HR managers, assistants and client departments, the role provides operational HR advice and hands‑on support across recruitment, classification, compensation and collective‑agreement matters.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver full‑cycle recruitment, from job posting to onboarding.
- Conduct job classification and manage compensation administration.
- Interpret collective agreements and provide guidance on unionized workplace issues.
- Support managers and staff on performance management, accommodation, onboarding and HR system usage.
- Maintain accurate HR records and ensure compliance with employment equity and equity policies.
- Collaborate with Central Human Resources, VPA, VPRI and Governance HR teams.
Required profile
- Strong knowledge of HR policies, employment equity and collective‑agreement interpretation.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in a complex, unionized environment.
- Excellent relationship‑building and communication skills.
- Commitment to inclusive and equitable HR practices.
Required skills
- Proficiency with HR information systems (HRIS).
