Financial Controller

About the role

Our client, a leading organization in the energy sector, is looking for a Financial Controller to join their Oshawa office. This full‑time, on‑site position reports directly to the Director and offers a strategic leadership opportunity within a large, complex organization.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a trusted financial advisor to senior leadership, providing guidance on planning, forecasting and operational performance.
• Lead and mentor a team of 5‑10 finance professionals, fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
• Oversee monthly financial reporting, budgeting, variance analysis and year‑end close activities.
• Maintain accuracy, integrity and strong internal controls of financial records.
• Identify financial risks and opportunities and deliver proactive recommendations.
• Partner with business units on planning, investment decisions and performance management.
• Prepare business cases, financial models and strategic recommendations for leadership.
• Serve as the primary liaison between business units and corporate finance functions (Tax, Planning, AP, AR, Audit).
• Support implementation of financial policies, processes and systems.
• Present results, forecasts and insights to senior leaders and stakeholders.

Required profile

• CPA designation (or internationally recognized equivalent) in good standing.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
• 8‑10 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
• Proven experience managing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cost reporting and variance analysis in a complex environment.
