Course Lecturer – Control Systems (Winter 2027)

About the role

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at McGill University seeks a qualified Course Lecturer to teach MECH 513 – Control Systems during the Winter 2027 term. The position involves delivering lectures, guiding student learning, and assessing performance for a 3‑credit course.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver all course material as outlined in the official Course Outline, covering state‑space modelling, stability analysis, linear feedback design, observers, and optimal control.
• Prepare lecture notes, conduct classroom sessions on Tuesdays (5:35 pm‑8:25 pm), and evaluate student assignments and examinations.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum five years of experience in analysis or design of control systems.
• Prior teaching experience at the university level.
• Demonstrated proficiency in spoken and written English.

Required skills

• State‑space modelling and linear algebra.
• Control system stability analysis (BIBO, Lyapunov).
• Design of linear state‑feedback controllers (pole placement, LQR) and observers (full‑order, reduced‑order, LQG).
• Fundamentals of optimal control and state estimation.
