Youth Facilitator – Part‑Time

About the role

The City of Hamilton is seeking a Youth Facilitator to support recreation programs for young people aged 12‑17. Working under the Supervisor, Gym/Club Programming, you will help create a safe, inclusive environment that encourages youth development and community engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organizing and delivering daily recreational and outdoor programs for youth.
• Ensure program accommodations for newcomers, youth with social or mental‑health challenges, and other diverse participants.
• Lead specialized youth development courses such as leadership programs.
• Develop weekly program schedules and special events, and provide input on instructor plans.
• Maintain a safe environment during on‑site activities and off‑site trips.
• Identify youth who may need referrals for mental‑health, family, school or behavioural support.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with youth aged 12‑17.
• Knowledge of youth mental health and community support resources.
• Current “Standard” First Aid with CPR Level C certification.
• Commitment to staff training, meetings and increased hours during summer programming.

Required skills

• Ability to facilitate crafts, music, sports, games, arts, drama and leadership activities.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Understanding of non‑violent crisis prevention and mental‑health first aid (certifications are an asset).
