Visiting Medical Officer – General Practice Anaesthetics

About the role

The Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) – General Practice Anaesthetics will deliver comprehensive specialist services at Griffith Base Hospital. This role involves high‑level clinical care, participation in the on‑call roster, and contribution to service development and education.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist anaesthetic and procedural general practice services to in‑patients and emergency presentations.
• Participate in the hospital’s on‑call roster, ensuring 24‑hour coverage.
• Contribute to service and policy development, quality improvement projects, and clinical education.
• Collaborate with the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit and tele‑health networks.

Required profile

• Current registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist General Practitioner.
• Formal recognition as a Procedural General Practitioner with advanced anaesthetic skills and accreditation by the Joint Consultative Committee on Anaesthesia (JCCA) or equivalent.
• Minimum three (3) years post‑graduate clinical experience.
• Previous experience in Emergency Medicine, General Practice and anaesthetic procedures.

Required skills

• Advanced procedural GP skills.
• JCCA (or equivalent) anaesthesia accreditation.
