Veterinarian

About the role

Elders Equine Veterinary Service is seeking a qualified veterinarian to join its private practice in Cartier, Manitoba. The role involves providing comprehensive veterinary care to a variety of animals, supporting both routine and emergency needs while advising owners on optimal animal management.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose diseases and abnormal conditions in individual animals, herds and flocks through physical examinations and laboratory tests.
• Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds and performing surgery.
• Vaccinate animals to prevent disease and provide obstetrics, dentistry and euthanasia services.
• Advise clients on feeding, housing, behaviour, breeding, hygiene and general animal care.
• Supervise animal health technologists and animal care workers.

Required profile

• Degree in veterinary medicine (or related fields such as medicine, dentistry, optometry).
• Provincial or territorial veterinary licensure and CFIA inspector training.
• 1–2 years of experience in a private veterinary practice.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to handle heavy loads (up to 23 kg).

• Surgical procedures including orthopaedic setting and wound management.
• Vaccination protocols and disease prevention.
• Obstetrics and dental care for animals.
