Primary Care Paramedic (Magrath)

About the role

Emergency Health Services is hiring a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) for its Magrath facility. The PCP assesses emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured patients between emergency scenes and facilities, operating ambulances or other transport vehicles. The role is physically demanding and involves travel in all weather conditions, including to remote locations such as the backcountry.

Key responsibilities

• Assess emergency scenes and patients and transport them between sites
• Treat patients by administering minor medications, using basic life support airway adjuncts and providing semi-automated defibrillation
• Lead the BLS crew in delivering clinical care during transport or at emergency scenes
• Ensure ambulances and other transport vehicles, including non-emergent transport units, are properly stocked and equipped

Required profile

• Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics as a Primary Care Paramedic
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) CPR certification
• Valid Class 4 Alberta operator's licence (or equivalent) with a recent five-year driver abstract showing no more than six demerits
• Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, unless already holding a clinical position
• Ability to lift and carry up to 105 lbs and to kneel and bend for extended periods; able to stand and sit for long periods
• Qualified to perform full operational duties by the start date

Preference is given to candidates with previous EMS experience in metro, suburban, rural or interfacility settings, and to those with post-secondary health care or public safety training.

What we offer

• Full-time, regular position with 8.4 hours per shift, two shifts per cycle
• Pay range of $33.67 to $42.51
• Vehicle provided; driver's licence required
