About the role
The Undergraduate Nurse Employee (UNE) position offers nursing students a paid opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a real‑world clinical setting. Working on the U2 Geri‑MH unit at Victoria General Hospital, the UNE supports patient‑centred care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN).
Key responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to adult and child patients as directed by the supervising RN/RPN.
- Document patient observations, interventions, and outcomes in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to care planning.
- Seek guidance and consultation when clinical situations exceed current competency.
Required profile
- Current enrollment in an approved nursing program leading to RN or RPN registration.
- Successful completion of the third year of study or enrollment in the third year with at least 450 clinical practice hours.
- Ability to work days, evenings, and weekends as required.
Required skills
- Fundamental nursing assessment and intervention skills.
- Understanding of patient safety and infection control practices.
- Effective communication with patients, families, and health‑care team members.
