Turnaround Operator

About the role
The Turnaround Operator supports the Operations Turnaround Team throughout all phases of a major facility outage, from pre‑work planning to shutdown, maintenance execution, commissioning, and startup. This field‑based position is ideal for operators with 5–10 years of heavy‑oil or thermal operations experience who thrive in high‑activity brownfield environments.
Key responsibilities
- Support turnaround pre‑work and execution activities within an assigned operating unit.
- Perform field operations for shutdown, isolation, equipment preparation, decontamination, maintenance access, commissioning, and startup.
- Complete LOTO, job‑site visits, and permit‑to‑work activities as directed.
- Conduct field walkdowns, verify system readiness, and ensure safe handover between operations and maintenance.
- Assist with permit writing or coordination during pre‑work and execution phases.
- Participate in daily operations and turnaround meetings, providing status updates.
- Follow all facility safe‑work practices to ensure safe and efficient shutdown and startup.
- Support commissioning and startup activities after maintenance, including equipment checks and system reinstatement.
- Work closely with the Turnaround Operations Lead and Production Coordinator for day‑to‑day direction.
Required profile
- 4th Class Power Engineering certification (minimum).
- 5–10 years of operating experience in heavy oil, SAGD, thermal, or similar hydrocarbon processing environments.
- Strong field‑operations background with experience in shutdowns, isolations, permitting, and startup activities.
- Physically able to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolds and perform hands‑on field work.
- Willingness to work extended hours, rotating shifts, and variable schedules during turnaround execution.
- Must arrive with appropriate PPE, including FR clothing and CSA‑approved work boots.
