Truck and Coach Technician

About the role

The City of Hamilton is seeking a skilled Truck and Coach Technician to service, repair, and overhaul diesel and CNG transit buses. You will work in a fast‑paced, 24/7 environment ensuring fleet reliability and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections on buses in line with MTO standards.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair transit vehicles using OEM software such as Cummins Insite, Allison DOC, Meritor, Bendix, Voith and Vansco.
• Disassemble, rebuild and reassemble major power‑train components including engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes and steering systems.
• Service steering, brake, suspension, electrical, fuel, HVAC, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Provide on‑road service, vehicle retrieval and emergency repairs to maintain 24/7 fleet availability.
• Enter and review repair data in the Enterprise Asset Management system.

Required profile

• Valid Ontario Truck and Coach Technicians Licence (310T) and a Class G driver’s licence (with ability to obtain Class C/Z).
• Willingness to obtain natural‑gas (ICE‑NG) and refrigeration/air‑conditioning endorsements.
• Ability to work independently on evenings, nights, weekends and on shift work.
• Physically capable of handling heavy tools, working outdoors and performing manual labour.

Required skills

• Proficiency with OEM diagnostic software: Cummins Insite, Allison DOC, Meritor, Bendix, Voith, Vansco.
• Hands‑on experience repairing engines, transmissions, differentials, steering, brake, suspension, electrical, fuel, HVAC, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

What we offer

• Hourly wage $40.71‑$45.23 plus shift premiums (e.g., $0.85/hr for afternoons, $1.00/hr for nights).
• Annual tool allowance of $1,300 and clothing allowance of $400.
