Therapist - Community Counselling for Youth

About the role

Ray of Hope is seeking a qualified psychotherapist to deliver community‑based counselling to youth and their families within its Youth Support Services program. The therapist will work primarily in community settings, providing flexible, safety‑first therapeutic interventions and case management as needed.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate confidential clinical records and coordinate referrals, admissions and discharges with partner organisations.
• Conduct screenings, assessments and individual, group and family psychotherapy sessions, often outside the office.
• Develop participant‑centered, strength‑based treatment plans using evidence‑informed practices.
• Provide crisis response, risk assessments and safety planning in collaboration with families and professionals.
• Offer parent coaching, family mediation and support groups for caregivers.
• Supervise student placements and less‑experienced therapists, and participate in peer consultation.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a related social‑service field (or Bachelor’s with supervised psychotherapy placement).
• Three to four years of experience working with youth, substance use issues and psychotherapy.
• Certifications: WHIMS, First Aid, Non‑violent crisis intervention.
• Vulnerable Sector Police Check, valid Class “G” driver’s licence and reliable vehicle.

Required skills

• Specialized treatment modalities such as EMDR and advanced family therapy.
• Motivational interviewing, stages of change and harm‑reduction techniques.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
