Therapeutic Area Lead, Specialty Care

About the role

AbbVie Canada is seeking a Therapeutic Area Lead for Specialty Care to join its Neuroscience & Specialty Care Medical Affairs team. This senior position will shape medical affairs strategy across ophthalmology/eye care and virology/infectious disease, supporting asset launches, evidence generation, and clinical trial development.

Key responsibilities

• Establish vision, strategy and goals for Specialty Care Medical Affairs aligned with clinical gaps and brand priorities.
• Serve as an active member of the Neuroscience & Specialty Care leadership team, influencing strategic priorities and cross‑functional alignment.
• Lead, develop and coach Medical Advisors and Medical Science Liaisons, overseeing performance management and succession planning.
• Define, measure and monitor Medical Affairs metrics to assess impact and drive continuous improvement.
• Support compliant medical execution, evidence generation activities, and clinical trial initiatives.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
• Deep knowledge of ophthalmology/eye care and virology/infectious disease therapeutic areas.
• Proven leadership and people‑development capabilities.
• Ability to influence franchise priorities and drive cross‑functional collaboration.
