Telecommunications Technician

About the role

The Telecommunications Technician is responsible for installing, testing, maintaining and repairing telephone and data communication equipment in a fast‑paced environment. You will work on‑site at telecom facilities, ensuring reliable signal transmission and network performance.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect and test cable signals and associated equipment.
• Diagnose, locate and repair faults in telecommunications hardware.
• Install, arrange, remove and maintain telephone equipment, wiring and related hardware.
• Test installed telephone systems to identify transmission faults and adjust switching equipment as needed.
• Install electromechanical, analog and digital trunking systems, circuits and equipment in central offices and switching centres.
• Evaluate and install computer hardware, networking software and operating system software.
• Implement data, software and hardware security procedures and perform routine network start‑up and shutdown.
• Conduct data backups, disaster recovery operations and monitor network traffic and security.
• Set up local area networks and Internet connections.
