Technical Lead – IBM i / AS400 (Telecom Billing)

About the role

This contract position is for a Technical Lead who will own and evolve IBM i / AS400 applications supporting a telecommunications billing platform. The role combines hands‑on development, production support, and team leadership while working on‑site three days a week.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance RPGLE‑based IBM i applications, ensuring stability and performance.
• Analyse business and technical requirements, perform impact assessments and design solutions aligned with SDLC standards.
• Lead a team of developers: allocate work, estimate effort, plan deliveries, conduct code reviews and enforce coding and documentation standards.
• Support testing, deployments and resolve production incidents, including defect investigation and root‑cause analysis.
• Collaborate with Business, QA, Operations and other cross‑functional teams to ensure smooth transitions and knowledge transfer.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience on IBM i / AS400 platforms, including recent Technical Lead responsibilities.
• Strong background in RPG/RPGLE, CL/CLLE, SQL, DB2 for i, batch processing and legacy application support.
• Experience in telecommunications billing environments is strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to estimate, plan and manage technical delivery with limited transition support.
• Excellent documentation, impact‑analysis and solution‑design capabilities.
