Data Engineer – Azure & Databricks

About the role

Zurich Canada is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain data pipelines on Microsoft Azure and Databricks. You will work with cross‑functional teams to deliver analytics‑ready datasets that support reporting, advanced analytics and AI solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scalable batch and incremental pipelines using Databricks on Azure.
• Implement data transformations with Python and SQL following engineering standards.
• Ingest data from enterprise applications, files, APIs and event‑driven sources.
• Design and curate datasets across Lakehouse layers (raw, refined, curated).
• Perform data‑quality checks, anomaly detection and reconciliation.
• Monitor production jobs, troubleshoot failures and resolve issues.
• Collaborate with analytics, data science and AI teams to provide trusted data foundations.
• Adhere to Zurich’s data governance, privacy and security requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands‑on experience with Python for data processing and automation.
• Proficiency in SQL for querying and data transformation.
• Experience with Databricks (jobs, notebooks, Delta Lake) or similar cloud data platform.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure services such as storage, compute, identity and networking.
• Understanding of ETL/ELT, data modelling, schema evolution and performance optimisation.
• Knowledge of data‑quality, validation and monitoring practices.
