Technical Lead, Full-Stack & AI Platforms (Canada-only)

About the role

Aequilibrium is a digital innovation partner helping organizations build customer and employee experiences through AI, XR (VR/AR), digital transformation and custom software. Its XR & AI practice builds immersive training and onboarding platforms combining virtual reality, artificial intelligence and enterprise software. It is looking for a Technical Lead to help scale its XR platform and set the technical direction of its next generation of AI-powered immersive training products. The role is open only to Canadian citizens or permanent residents, and is described as remote, contracted to full time.

The role combines technical leadership, solution architecture, AI expertise and hands-on development, working closely with the Product Owner, Program Manager, Product Designer and Unity Lead. It is not a people management role: the expected split is 30% technical leadership and architecture, 70% hands-on development.

Key responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture of the XR Training Academy platform and define architecture standards across frontend, backend, AI, cloud and Unity integrations
• Create technical roadmaps, lead planning and design sessions, and prevent over-engineering
• Design scalable cloud-native architectures, APIs, integration patterns and service boundaries, and guide AI architecture and technology choices
• Turn product requirements into technical plans, break epics into workstreams, define acceptance criteria and technical success metrics, and support estimation and sprint planning
• Evaluate and integrate LLMs, AI services and agent-based workflows, and coach the team on AI-assisted development
• Write production-quality code, build backend services, APIs, integrations and cloud infrastructure, review pull requests and mentor developers
• Partner with the Product Owner, Program Manager, Product Designer and Unity Lead, and take part in retrospectives

Required profile

• 8+ years of software development experience
• 3+ years in a Technical Lead, Lead Developer or Solution Architect role
• Experience building cloud-native applications
• Experience building applications that use Large Language Models (LLMs)
• Strong systems thinking, architecture and leadership skills, and stakeholder management

Required skills

• TypeScript / JavaScript, Python / FastAPI, React or similar frontend frameworks
• REST APIs, CI/CD pipelines, Azure (preferred)
• LLM applications, OpenAI, agentic workflows, RAG architectures, prompt engineering, AI evaluation and governance

Nice to have: XR, VR, AR or Unity experience; experience building training, education or simulation platforms; experience in regulated industries such as finance, healthcare or education; experience in consulting or professional services.
