Tax Officer – Personal & Trust Services

About the role

The Tax Officer will support Scotiatrust’s Taxation Services unit in Canada by delivering comprehensive personal, estate and trust tax preparation services. This role ensures compliance with regulatory deadlines, internal policies and audit standards while fostering strong client relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Engage clients and partners to provide tax preparation services within defined deadlines and service level agreements.
• Identify tax issues, propose solutions and communicate them to clients and internal partners.
• Serve as the primary contact for clients, partners and new business prospects.
• Allocate, monitor and review tax returns prepared by associate staff to ensure accuracy and minimize risk.
• Provide coaching, technical guidance and performance feedback to associate tax officers, administrators and seasonal staff.
• Prepare the most complex tax returns and ensure adherence to the Bank’s risk and compliance frameworks.
• Promote a high‑performance, inclusive work environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a tax unit serving individuals, trusts and corporations.
• Post‑secondary degree or diploma; may be working toward an accounting designation.
• Completion of STEP or CSI Taxation courses and up‑to‑date knowledge of legislative changes.

Required skills

• Proficiency with tax preparation software.
• Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Office.
• Experience using Salesforce.
