Software Engineer – AI Platform

About the role

Microsoft 365 Engineering Systems (ES365) is building an agentic engineering platform that powers AI‑driven productivity for developers across Microsoft. As a Software Engineer you will help design and implement core platform capabilities and developer‑facing experiences that enable large‑scale codebase refactoring, automated integrations, and AI‑assisted code understanding.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and ship features for the AI‑powered engineering platform.
• Collaborate with codebase owners and other engineering teams to align solutions with existing workflows.
• Apply and promote best practices for AI‑assisted software development.
• Build and maintain partnerships with teams working on related AI and developer tooling initiatives.
• Mentor peers, conduct code reviews, and contribute to an inclusive team environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong fundamentals in system design, algorithms, testing, debugging, and code review.
• Ability to lead technical direction and work effectively in fast‑moving, ambiguous problem spaces.
• Hands‑on experience with AI‑powered developer tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, OpenAI Codex/ChatGPT, or Cursor.
