Sessional Lecturer – Existentialism (Fall 2026)

About the role

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto Mississauga is seeking a sessional lecturer to teach an introductory course on existential themes for the Fall 2026 term. The course explores topics such as meaning, purpose, faith, freedom, death, sexuality, art, and imagination, drawing on philosophical texts as well as literature, poetry, and film.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver weekly lectures and discussion sessions in person.
• Create and update course materials, reading lists, and assessment tools.
• Evaluate student work, assign grades, and provide constructive feedback.
• Maintain office hours and support student learning.
• Collaborate with teaching assistants and departmental staff as needed.

Required profile

• PhD in philosophy (in-hand) or a closely related field.
• Prior experience teaching university‑level philosophy courses, preferably at the University of Toronto.
• Advanced knowledge of existential philosophy and related interdisciplinary material.
• Evidence of research achievement is considered an asset.
