Assistant Professor – Transient & Multi‑Messenger Astrophysics

About the role

The Department of Physics at McGill University seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Transient Astrophysics, Astroparticle Physics, and/or Multi‑Messenger Astrophysics. The appointment is expected to start on August 1, 2027 and will join a diverse, research‑intensive faculty.

Key responsibilities

• Develop an independent, internationally funded research program in the specified astrophysics areas.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses and supervise student research.
• Advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
• Participate in departmental and university administrative duties.
• Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive departmental culture.

Required profile

• PhD in astrophysics or a closely related field.
• Post‑doctoral or equivalent research experience is desirable.
• Demonstrated excellence in research through high‑impact publications and strong references.
• Proven teaching ability and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Required skills

• Observational techniques in astrophysics.
• Modelling and simulation of astrophysical phenomena.
• Instrumentation development or usage.
• Data analysis and interpretation.
