Senior Software Engineer – Orchestration

About the role

Fivetran is looking for a senior software engineer to join the Orchestration team, which owns the control‑plane layer of the dbt platform – the scheduler, execution harness, and results processing. You will design and deliver end‑to‑end features, improve performance of high‑throughput APIs and data models, and work fully remote.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement features and performance improvements across the Metadata services such as discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history.
• Develop, maintain, and test high‑quality, maintainable code while optimizing critical paths for performance.
• Write technical designs, solicit feedback, and explain trade‑offs of decisions.
• Participate in code reviews, improve test coverage, and reduce technical debt.
• Troubleshoot production issues, conduct post‑mortems, and contribute to on‑call rotation.
• Collaborate with product managers, QE, customer support, and peers to ensure scalability and reliability.
• Leverage AI tooling such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and conversational AI to accelerate development and author SDLC artifacts.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building backend services and reusable components.
• Hands‑on experience with distributed systems and cloud computing concepts.
• Proven ability to write well‑structured, performant, and well‑tested code.
• Experience leading feature‑level design work and clearly communicating trade‑offs.
• Ability to identify design flaws in existing systems and propose improvements.
