Senior Software Engineer - Metadata

About the role

Fivetran and dbt Labs are building the data pipelines that power the modern data stack. The Metadata team owns the discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run‑history services, enabling customers to understand and trust their data. As a Senior Software Engineer you will design, implement, and improve these high‑throughput services.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver new features and performance improvements for the discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run‑history services.
• Write, test, and maintain high‑quality, performant code while optimizing critical paths.
• Produce technical design documents, solicit feedback, and explain trade‑offs.
• Review pull requests, mentor teammates, and raise the code quality bar.
• Increase test coverage, refactor to reduce technical debt, and troubleshoot production incidents.
• Participate in on‑call rotation and ensure security best practices.
• Leverage AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, ChatGPT) to accelerate development and author SDLC artifacts.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building backend services and reusable components.
• Strong ability to lead feature design, write well‑structured, performant, and well‑tested code, and explain design decisions.
• Experience with distributed systems, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Proficiency in code reviews, troubleshooting, and continuous integration tooling.
