Senior Software Developer (Java, Spring Boot, Microservices)

About the role

Dayforce, a global human capital management (HCM) company, is modernizing Powerpay, its Canadian payroll and human capital management solution, by building scalable, cloud-native applications. It is looking for an experienced, hands-on Senior Software Developer who takes ownership of their work and uses Java, Spring Boot, microservices, AWS and AI-powered development tools.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices, and help move existing applications to cloud-native architectures.
• Take ownership of development tasks, from technical design through implementation and delivery.
• Apply object-oriented programming, design patterns and clean coding practices.
• Collaborate with developers, QA engineers, architects, DevOps and Product Owners, and take part in code reviews, technical discussions and Agile ceremonies.
• Write unit and integration tests, investigate defects and improve application performance.
• Support junior developers and use AI-assisted tools to speed up coding, testing and troubleshooting.

Required profile

• Strong hands-on experience with Java, preferably Java 17 or later.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and microservices, and good debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with AWS or equivalent cloud platforms, cloud-native applications and containerization with Docker.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines and Agile development; able to work independently and communicate well.
• Ability to use AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Claude or ChatGPT, write effective prompts and validate AI-generated code.

Required skills

• Spring Boot and object-oriented programming with SOLID principles and design patterns.
• SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, DB2 or SQL Server.
• Unit testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
