Senior Research Genetic Counsellor

About the role

The Senior Research Genetic Counsellor will lead the strategic and clinical research activities of the Precision Health Initiative within the Turvey Laboratory at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. This role focuses on rare pediatric genetic disorders, coordinating with families, clinicians, and research partners to deliver innovative genomic investigations.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, manage and prioritize PHI research projects, translating scientific objectives into clinical‑genomic approaches.
• Identify new research directions, develop grant applications and establish collaborations with national and international networks.
• Oversee design and implementation of data‑sharing agreements, institutional contracts and multi‑site ethics applications.
• Provide advanced genetic counselling, recruit participants, and guide families through complex genomic results.
• Supervise research assistants, project coordinators and graduate trainees, ensuring high‑quality project execution.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate degree (or equivalent) with at least four years of relevant experience, or an undergraduate degree with six years of experience.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and ability to respect diverse perspectives.
• Board eligibility for certification by the Canadian Association of Genetic Counselling or the American Board of Genetic Counselling (preferred).
