Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Maternal & Infant Health

About the role

The University of British Columbia seeks a full‑time Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Salker Laboratory, a multidisciplinary team focused on improving maternal and infant health through advanced biomarkers and multi‑omics research. This fixed‑term, 1‑year appointment offers a competitive salary, health benefits, and conference support.

Key responsibilities

• Advance patient‑oriented research by analyzing existing multi‑omics datasets and launching new prospective clinical studies.
• Develop and maintain standardized clinical databases and biospecimen pipelines for maternal and neonatal cohorts.
• Collaborate with clinicians, bioinformaticians, and trainees across obstetrics, neonatology, genomics, immunology, and computational biology.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate research trainees and contribute to grant writing and postdoctoral funding applications.

Required profile

• PhD in biology, biomedicine, molecular biology, women’s health or related field with at least 2 years post‑doctoral experience.
• Experience in women’s, maternal, or infant health research and molecular or cellular laboratory methods.
• Strong publication record as first author and demonstrated quantitative research expertise.
• Excellent organization, communication, and teamwork skills, with a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Required skills

• Single‑cell sequencing and analysis.
• Cell‑free RNA/DNA profiling, methylation and proteomics techniques.
• Bioinformatics pipelines and computational biology.
• Machine learning and predictive modelling for biomarker discovery.
