Research Assistant in Medical Genetics and Pediatrics

About the role

The Department of Paediatrics at UBC is seeking a Research Assistant to support a principal investigator in international, interdisciplinary medical genetics research. The role combines literature research, manuscript preparation, and administrative support within a collaborative academic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct literature searches, retrieve publications, and add references to draft manuscripts.
• Prepare, submit, and track manuscripts, handling all related paperwork and correspondence.
• Draft correspondence, nomination letters, and research presentations under the PI’s direction.
• Maintain research publication records, contact lists, the PI’s academic CV, and organize research documents for distribution.

Required profile

• High school graduation with at least one year of related experience (or equivalent education/experience).
• Willingness to respect diverse perspectives and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Medium to high computer literacy, including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Familiarity with database management, UBC Library resources, and C&W Electronic Health Record systems.
• Proficiency in internet resource use and basic reference management.
