Senior IT Project Manager – Government of Alberta

About the role

The Senior IT Project Manager will lead the Procurement System Modernization initiative for the Government of Alberta. Reporting to the Director of Strategic and Operational Excellence, this role oversees the full lifecycle of complex IT projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and complete IT projects, setting deadlines and assigning responsibilities.
• Maintain project documentation, including charters, business cases, status reports, risk logs, and dashboards.
• Lead daily face‑to‑face meetings with clients and technical teams.
• Record and monitor risks, issues, and changes throughout the project.
• Develop and sustain positive stakeholder relationships, including executive‑level communication.
• Ensure successful implementation of IT solutions across multiple teams and organizations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 6 years of experience defining project scope, delivering project artefacts, and managing multiple concurrent projects.
• Proven experience in a senior project management role within the public sector, preferably Canada.
• Active PMP or PGMP certification (preferred).
• At least 4 years of experience building stakeholder relationships and navigating complex technical issues without formal guidelines.
• Experience with large, custom software development projects and enterprise‑architect environments.
