Reverse Mortgage Underwriter

About the role

EQ Bank is looking for a Reverse Mortgage Underwriter to assess new mortgage applications, issue commitments and move transactions to funding in a timely, prudent manner. You will work closely with brokers, internal stakeholders and management to ensure compliance, profitability and excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Review incoming applications, verify documentation for accuracy and legitimacy, and approve, decline or refer them for further approval.
• Follow up with brokers on mortgage commitments to maximize funding volumes and ensure deals close on schedule.
• Conduct AML and ATF checks, including income and down‑payment verification, and ensure adherence to corporate lending policies.
• Manage deal flow to meet prescribed deadlines and service level agreements, using reports to track pipeline progress.
• Provide underwriting expertise to brokers and internal teams while maintaining strong broker relationships.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary education in business or finance.
• Minimum 2 years of mortgage experience, preferably with reverse mortgage exposure.
• Bilingual in French and English with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent time‑management, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Attention to detail and solid organizational skills.
• Knowledge of AML, ATF practices and fraud risk in the mortgage industry.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Understanding of mortgage underwriting guidelines and funding processes.
• Familiarity with AML/ATF regulations and compliance requirements.
