Resident Care Assistant

About the role

The Resident Care Assistant provides close observation and compassionate supervision for patients whose behaviours pose safety risks. Working under a registered health professional, you will support residents with dementia, brain injury, schizophrenia, stroke and other conditions in a safe, person‑centred environment.

Key responsibilities

• Observe assigned patients continuously to ensure safety, especially during violent outbursts or elopement risks.
• Provide one‑to‑one supervision and engage residents in meaningful activities such as reading, storytelling, and photo‑album review.
• Document observations using tools like the Dementia Observations Scale (DOS) and Behaviour Assessment Record (BAR) on an hourly basis.
• Notify a registered health professional immediately if a resident is in danger, missing, or shows a significant change in condition.
• Assist with activities of daily living under direct supervision and maintain a professional image with a visible name tag.
• Complete additional duties as assigned, including high‑touch cleaning and mask preparation.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 11 or equivalent education (Ontario).
• One year recent experience in patient care, long‑term care, or a PSW certificate or at least one year of an accredited nursing program.
• Current Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention Certification.
• Proof of up‑to‑date immunizations (MMRV, diphtheria, pertussis, hepatitis B) and a recent negative TB test or chest X‑ray.
• Willingness to undergo a Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
