About the role

The School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of British Columbia is seeking a Research Technician (Level 3) to join the Shakiba Laboratory. The position supports an interdisciplinary project that combines in‑vitro and in‑silico embryo models to investigate early mammalian development.

Key responsibilities

  • Generate embryo‑like structures from mouse and human embryonic stem cells.
  • Perform immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and microscopy to analyse the structures.
  • Develop and apply image‑analysis workflows using IMARIS, Fiji, and related tools.
  • Implement computational simulations of early embryonic development with Python and R Studio.
  • Maintain cell‑culture facilities, record experimental data, and ensure compliance with lab safety protocols.

Required profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands‑on experience with stem‑cell culture and laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced research environment.
  • Strong written communication skills for documentation and reporting.
