Research Assistant/Technician 4 for Biology Teaching Labs

About the role

The position provides technical support for teaching laboratory courses within the Biology Program at UBC. The incumbent joins a collaborative team of teaching technicians to ensure smooth operation of a variety of biology labs.

Key responsibilities

• Design, fabricate, procure, and maintain materials and equipment for laboratory exercises.
• Assist instructors in developing and troubleshooting lab protocols and SOPs.
• Culture and maintain a wide range of organisms (algae, plants, vertebrates, invertebrates) following ACC standards.
• Oversee equipment, reagent, and supply needs, ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and animal care regulations.
• Provide technical guidance and training to undergraduate students, lab technicians, and Work Learn students.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in Plant Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or related field, or technical college diploma.
• Minimum of 4 years relevant experience or equivalent education/experience mix.
