Research Assistant – Graphene Sensor Research

About the role

This part‑time Research Assistant position supports Prof. Thomas Szkopek’s team in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The role focuses on graphene ion‑sensitive field‑effect transistor (FET) sensor research, including design, fabrication, and testing of experimental fixtures.

Key responsibilities

• Design, fabricate, test, and iteratively improve physical test fixtures (electrical contacts, mechanical assemblies, liquid‑flow cells) for graphene FET sensors.
• Document design, fabrication, and test results, including device yield.
• Assist with graphene FET fabrication and testing as time permits.
• Support the design and implementation of research instrumentation for related projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline (mechanical, electrical, applied science, physics, etc.).
• Experience designing and implementing mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with electronic instrumentation, microfluidics, additive manufacturing methods, and system integration (beneficial).
• Ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary research environment.
• Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work in Quebec.
