Research Assistant – Circular Economy & Biodiversity

About the role
The Department of Biology at McGill University seeks a Research Assistant to support interdisciplinary case studies on circular‑economy strategies and their impacts on biodiversity in Quebec. The role combines scientific analysis, indicator development, and stakeholder collaboration.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct case‑study research evaluating wood recovery, paper recycling, agroecology and other circular strategies.
- Develop and adapt biodiversity indicators, including Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs) and related ecological metrics.
- Apply analytical tools such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and environmental modelling to quantify impacts.
- Collaborate with academic, governmental and industrial partners to integrate biodiversity considerations.
- Synthesize findings and communicate results through reports, presentations and academic publications.
Required profile
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in ecology, environmental science, geography, engineering or a related field.
- Strong analytical, organizational and scientific writing skills in both English and French.
- Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in interdisciplinary or applied research related to biodiversity, circular economy or sustainability.

What we offer
- Fixed‑term contract (Nov 2025 – Mar 2027) with a competitive hourly rate of $31.44 CAD.
- Full‑time schedule (35 hours/week) in the Stewart Biology Building, Montreal.
