Research Assistant 2 – Biodiversity Data Platform

About the role

The Department of Biology seeks a Research Assistant 2 to support the BON in a Box platform, a biodiversity data and analysis resource. Working under the supervision of Professor Andrew Gonzalez, you will help maintain documentation, improve analysis pipelines, and bridge scientific research with policy and public audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain clear documentation of the BON in a Box platform and its biodiversity analysis pipelines.
• Debug and enhance pipelines to support diverse research use cases.
• Identify grants, tenders and partnerships, contributing to application texts.
• Build relationships with policy actors such as parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity and regional Technical Support Centers.
• Present the BON in a Box platform and explain essential biodiversity variables and indicators to non‑technical audiences in online and in‑person events.
• Review and support the communication strategy (social media, website) to raise awareness among target users.

Required profile

• Adaptable with quick learning ability across ecology, biodiversity and data science.
• Experience in biodiversity data analysis.
• Strong communication and public‑speaking skills to convey complex concepts clearly.
• Proven ability to build productive relationships with partners.
• Maturity, professionalism and commitment to advancing biodiversity conservation.
